Erik Buell Today.

buell1190rxBlackIn 2009, Harley-Davidson President and CEO Keith Wandell decided to drop the Buell Motorcycle company, a very painful and publicized breakup ending up with a liquidation sale of Buell’s machines, equipment, office furniture, tools, parts and even mementos. Nothing had to remain… Because Harley-Davidson removed Erik Buell’s non compete employment clause (at the condition he doesn’t build cruisers or touring motorcycles), he was able to launch Erik Buell Racing, a new venture initially focusing on the creation and production of racing motorcycles aimed at the highest level of the sport.

rx1190yellowErik Buell invested some of his own money in the company and quite rapidly received a large financial support from Hero MotoCorp., the largest motorcycle manufacturer in India, which agreed to make a $25 million investment in Erik Buell Racing in exchange of getting 49.2% of EBR’s corporation shares. After producing a small number of $40,000 road racing motorcycles and doing technical consulting for Hero to help the company establishes itself in the United States, EBR has unveiled on October 2013 in Orlando at the AIMExpo, the 1190RX a model offering  the same performance pedigree that its high end road racing big brother, the 1190RS, but with less expensive components and priced at $18,995. The 1190RX manufacturing has started 1 month ago. Continue reading ‘Erik Buell Today.’

Victory To Launch 2015 Gunner Model On February 8.

2015VictoryGunner12015VictoryGunner2It should be a bobber style model and will be powered by the powerful Victory fuel-injected, counter-balanced Freedom® 106/6 V-Twin delivering 110 ft-lb of torque. The most interesting news, until we see the Gunner on February 8, is the fact that Victory Motorcycles has decided to announce a new 2015 model so early in the year.

There may be at least 2 good marketing reasons to do so. On November 4, 2013 Harley-Davidson has already revealed the new Street 500 & 750 models to be launched in the USA this Spring (date to be confirmed) Polaris is probably going to launch its new 2015 Indian models before or during Sturgis Bike Week, close to the reveal of Harley-Davidson own 2015 lineup. During the coming 6-month period, Victory Motorcycles, Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles are going to launch their specific marketing blitz, fight for media coverage and for commendable reviews. More than ever, choice is coming to you…starting February 8.

Breaking News. Daytec Frames Closed Its Doors. Owner Phil Day To Join Fat Baggers Inc.

DaytecSad news for the custom motorcycle industry. Daytec, one of the leading manufacturers of after market frames for American V-Twin Motorcycles with a state-of- the-art Powder Coating division, has closed its doors. Phil Day created Daytec back in 1974, first building high performance exhaust systems for the boating industry, learning about powder coating and playing around with all types of off-road vehicles,.

JJCFLThen Daytec became the leading manufacturer of  the highest quality custom American V-Twin motorcycle frames, building them for different brands like Arlen Ness and West Coast Choppers, and also creating one-off frames for professional custom builders and individuals.

In its shop of Hesperia, California the Daytec team also performed repair and restoration of classic and vintage frames. This morning, Jesse James who confirmed to me the closure of Daytec, advised me that his 2 signature frames, the CFL 1 (below picture) and CFL 3 (stainless steel) will now be made again at his own facility in Austin, Texas. The industry just lost its best source for custom American V-Twin custom motorcycle frames.

Added 01/27/2014 at 1.00 p.m. est. Gary Chipp, founder of Fat Baggers, Inc, also known as FBI located in Chariton, asked me to announce that Phil Day of Daytec will be joining the Fat Baggers, Inc. team February 1, 2014.

“I am excited about new product opportunities and the opportunity to have Phil Day in our facility assisting with manufacturing and production management” said Gary Chipp.  Mr. Day replied, “I am excited to be here and anxious to continue the tradition of producing quality frames. With the recent changes in the industry, I feel there is great opportunity in applying what I have learned to FBI!”

RYNO Microcycle

rynomicrocycle1One-wheel transportation always elicits a primal response. The RYNO Microcycle is not the first offering of small, sleek one-wheel vehicles supposed to make motorized personal transportation enjoyable and practical…if you are not apprehensive at the idea of riding a self-balancing machine. The RYNO keeps you from falling by helping you balance forward and backward, but you are responsible for balancing it side-to-side. You can make a 360-degree on a vertical axis. The RYNO is designed to resemble a conventional motorcycle in its controls, the riding position making those who already ride a motorcycle feel right at home.

It’s true that one-wheelers offer you a kind of new freedom. As the company says: “ The RYNO isn’t about owning the road. It’s about sharing the pathways and byways that move a little bit slower. But get you there in about the same time and a lot less stressed. It’s about reducing your impact, your footprint, and most importantly, your own frustration.”

Electric motor powered by 2 SLA batteries is contained in the wheel and will let you ride at speeds up to 10 mph for 10 miles on a full charge. The Ryno retails for $5,295 (including batteries, charger, LED headlights and display stand) and 1 penny per mile with a one-year limited warranty. Made in the USA. Watch the promo video.
