“Howdy Cyril, just got back from the Air Races, always a rush if you like large horsepower displays. I debuted a huge painting of the Goodyear F2G, a Super Corsair. The only one flying in the world, originally designed to out-climb the Kamikaze before he could dive. It sports the largest piston engine ever developed with 28 cylinders (4 banks of 7) for around 4600 hp. This is the plane as it raced its last competition in 1949 in Cleveland, against a p51, spitfire and then a p38 lightning. It will go into the museum next to the plane itself in Chandler Az. More Job Cuts At The Harley-Davidson York Plant

Seventy one more workers were laid off yesterday. That’s as Harley-Davidson continues to visit and evaluate new plant sites in Tennessee, Indiana & Kentucky. If Harley-Davidson closes the Springettsbury Township facility, it would be a total of 2000 jobs eliminated. But Harley is still studying the possibility of restructuring the business of making motorcycles at the Springettsbury plant and of negotiating a new contract with workers.If these two hurdles were cleared it could help Harley decide to stay local. The company said it wants to make a decision some time before the end of the year. As reported before, a production shut down is scheduled to start tomorrow October 1st. Worldwide sales of Harley-Davidson motorcycles have declined about 12% and the company is looking for ways to cut costs and adjust production with reduced demand.

Indian Motorcycle Concept Bike

When seeing this Indian concept bike my first reaction was “what would New Zealand racing motorcycle legend Burt Munro think of it?” He was 68 and was riding a 47-year old machine when he set in 1967 his Indian World Land Speed Record . If living today, would he be interested to make this concept speed racer work on the Bonneville Salts? Would he work his magic on it? You must admit that the styling is gorgeous and that because of the spoke-less wheels this machine would look like floating when making passes between the timing mile flags. Well, if this concept Indian bike is never raced, at least designer Dan Bailey gave a lot of inspiration to all sport bike designers and builders.
From time to time a custom motorcycle gem appears on eBay. Although I am not in the business of running classified of parts or bikes, I thought you would like to know about this bike that I never featured before. Panster started at the shop of LC Fabrications as a 1973 Ironhead basket. Builder Jeremy Cupp kept the bottom-end and resold the rest, which turned out to be quite profitable for him to finance the rest of his project. After moving the Sportster head bolt pattern, plug and recut the clearance holes for the pushrods, and make new tubes to follow the push rod angles, Jeremy bolted on some Trock cylinders and STD Pan Heads and fitted the engine with an S&S FE carb. About design, it is clearly inspired by the “Silent Grey Fellow”. Both 21″ wheels are equipped with perimeter discs and the seat was borrowed from an old Schwinn. Jeremy hates to let go this baby, but its time for him to start a new project, so he has to part with this one. I understand…Panster On eBay.
Without hesitation I tell you that Motorcycle Dream Garages is the best motorcycle related book I have seen and read in quite a while. When an advance copy landed on my desk, just looking at the title and cover made me imagine that it was only about private fantasy garages that most of us will never be able to get. Yes, in this book are featured a few palace garages and because of the decorum and the bikes kept inside, they will make you dream and dream…
But more importantly, Motorcycle Dream Garages is a superb photography of the places we like the most just after the road, and this without consideration of them being status symbols. BUB Seven Streamliner 367mph World Record Run

Chris Carr set a new FIM world record & AMA national record at 367.382 mph through the mile with an exit speed of 372.534 mph at the Cook Private Meet at the Bonneville Salt Flats Utah. How fast in 367.382 mph? That’s 538 feet per second and 5 football fields in 3.3 seconds. Conceived by Denis, the Bub V-4 is a 400hp engine in a package the size of a 1 liter V-Twin. What can you expect from an Italian Custom builder doing a 1946 Knucklehead job? To integrate in his built some vintage Ferrari car accessories… By the way, 1946 was also the first year Ferrari vehicles became street legal. Before, they were only race cars. Would Enzo Ferrari have appreciated this homage? You bet! Based on a Harley EL and using the original 61″ knucklehead engine, this Italo American special construction features a Dino Ferrari carburetor, a 1935 Italian car speedo, and shift via a 1940 Ferrari Testarossa lever! Custom modified frame has a 32-degree rake with no stretch, wheels are 21″ front and 16″ rear, and body work (gas tank, oil tank, rear fender) are massaged aluminum by the Italo crew of Garage 65. Passing Of Carolyn Exner From Jeri Springer Front Ends

It is with sadness that I have to report that Carolyn Exner, wife of Jeri Exner of Jeri Springer Front Ends has lost on Saturday morning her year long battle with cancer. Much more than Jeri’s wife, Carolyn was a full time very important member of the business. Many of us Custom Builders of the industry dealt with her first when ordering a front end. She was extremely competent at calculating and verifying length of a Springer front end for optimum bike trail when we called about a one-off frame with a geometry never seen before. She was also one of the most knowledable women in the business about motorcycles. A native from England, on a personal side, she enjoyed Sail Boarding, the TV show “Top Gear” and taking care of the exotic birds, mostly parrots that she and Jeri rescued from otherwise uncomfortable lives. My deepest sympathy to Jeri and all the Exner family. In memory of Carolyn I post a picture of the front end of my built “El Mirage’ that I conceived and that she helped me to produce with husband Jeri.

Ribbed Aluminum Fenders

Personally, I love aluminum body work in either form, raw, wirebrushed, mirror polished, anodized, partially painted. Not only because it’s a noble and beautiful material that will never rust but also because it will make your bike much lighter. There are a few available bolt-on gas tanks and fenders on the after-market scene, but sometimes the issue you may have is the strength of the welds and thickness of the aluminum used. My mind is juggling with words to describe this new machine. Is Quad enough to describe this wild creation made out out of a mix of carbon fiber, kevlar, stainless steel, magnesium, titanium and aluminum? Joe Skonecki is the man behind this creation but I didn’t have the opportunity to ask him what inspired him to start such a crazy project with the firm intention to produce a limited edition.
