2 New Indian Motorcycles. Chief Bomber And Chief Dark Horse.

The 15 Indian Motorcycle dealers met on June 22/24th at the Indian’s Kings Mountain, NC headquarter for their 1st annual meeting. Two new models were introduced, The Chief Bomber and The Chief Dark Horse. Both models will be on display at the Sturgis Rally.
Inspired by WWII aircraft, the Bomber is a limited edition Chief model and will only be available for one year. The Bomber is available in Military Green and Silver Smoke finishes. The pin-up girl tank artwork is inspired by the Bomber nose art of that era. The leather used on the seat and saddlebags are reminiscent of the feel and color of an old bomber jacket. Harley-Davidson plans to sell $700 million of bonds backed by loans for motorcycles and eligible for the Fed’s Term Asset- Backed Securities Loan Facility. Term Asset-Backed Securities Loan Facility (TALF) is the name of a program created by the US Federal Reserve (the Fed) to support the issuance of asset-backed securities (ABS) collateralized by student loans, auto loans, credit card loans, and loans guaranteed by the Small Business Administration (SBA). Other automotive companies selling securities backed by consumer loans include Honda, Chrysler Financial and Ford Motor Co.

These days, Paul Teutul Jr, helped by his girlfriend Rachel, is mostly working out of his house, launching his new business JR Designs. Yes, he is still making appearances on American Chopper, but mostly is trying to transition to industrial design with Coleman Stoves as 1st client of his new venture. I belong to the category of people who think that if you can design complex machines like custom motorcycles you can successfully design many other products. You have or you don’t have a knack at design, period. So, I think that Paul Jr. is making the right move and may be successful, especially after being introduced to a vast corporate world via his TV reality show. Since October 2008 vertical license plate were illegal in the State of Florida. The first fine to violate the law was a whopping $1000…
Abate of Florida reports that governor Charlie Crist signed an amended bill restoring the legality of the use of a vertical tag for motorcycles and scooters if it cannot be adjusted or flipped up to conceal the plate numbers. It seems that the new law already took effect on July 1st.

Today Wednesday July 2nd, Big Dog Motorcycles laid off over 20 employees. The company is blaming the economy, practically the shrinking of consumer discretionary spending and the lack of retail financing available. Laid-off workers received a severance package. Big Dog Motorcycles, like many other manufacturers, is focusing its efforts to exporting to Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. Last September Big Dog already laid-off 49 employees.
