November 4, 2008. Vote.

I don’t write a political Blog. So, I will not express here any political preference. Don’t worry about either candidate on November 5th. Both will have a job, one becoming President, the other keeping his job as Senator. Both are rich and will stay rich whatever the next tax system in place. Both will keep their house(s) at any mortgage rates. Both will keep their business expense accounts and will not have to pay for gas at any price. Both will have the best healthcare coverage anyone can get, etc. I believe in voting and encourage you to do it if it’s not already done (I voted 1 week ago after waiting in line for about 1 H 45 m). This post to tell you is that whoever is elected we are all going to be fine. Just care about yourself and your family without expecting too much of the new President.

Happy Halloween

Did you know? Halloween did not become a holiday in the United States until the 19th century, where lingering Puritan tradition restricted the observance of many holidays. American almanacs of the late 18th and early 19th centuries do not include Halloween in their lists of holidays. The transatlantic migration of nearly two million Irish following the Irish Potato Famine (1845-1849) finally brought the holiday to the United States. Scottish emigration, primarily to Canada before 1870 and to the United States thereafter, brought the Scottish version of the holiday to each country.

Building The Bad Dog 215 Air Cooled Engine

“My name is Bill Price.  I am the designer of the Bad Dog 215–one of the biggest and most powerful air-cooled v-twin motorcycle engines ever designed.  I am a motorcycle enthusiast living and working in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. I’ve spent the past forty years working on motorized machinery–including tuning, rebuilding and modifying motorcycle engines.  My main design influences are the Nortons and Triumphs I’ve repaired and restored over the years. Extreme Leather Tooling Art

His name is Josh Ellingson. He was discovered” not a long time ago by Miles and Lorrie Brown of “Evil Twin Motorsickle” a custom motorcycles shop in beautiful Alberta, Canada. They first met him at a farmers market where Josh had a small table displaying some of the items he had made in his spare time to enhance his income. Small items like dog collars, watch staps and belts. Immediately they recognized Josh’s untapped raw skills and on the spot commissionned him for a seat & bags for a custom project that Mikes & Lorrie are currently building. Here the result, leather tooling at its best with a quality of details and a style I never seen before (wish I could publish big size pictures). Josh doesnt have yet a website to show his extreme leather tooling art, but you can contact him at dr.skinstitcher@hotmail.com or call 403-748-3909.

Ultimate Vintage Motorbike

I am fond of the beach cruiser look and of white wall tires.  So, logically, at 1st glance I fell in love with this vintage motorbike by Ridley Motorcycles. It’s a small engine powered (49 or 70 cc) bicycle featuring the old-time look in a 1-piece tank frame (steel or aluminum), oversized 26” wheels, fender-mounted front & rear license plate, and incorporating all the small details to make it a vintage treasure. The base model with the 49 cc engine is capable of 24 miles per hour and nearly 120 miles per gallon. If you feel like doing zero-emission propulsion, you can still pedal as long as you want.  MSRP starting at $1,999.00. Other models available at Ridley Motorcycles

Vintage Inspired “Honey Pot” Oil Filter

Ok, guys. It’s a motorcycle oil filter for oil and not a motorcycle pot for honey pot. Inspired by the “Hildebrandt” oil filters popularized during the ’50s and ’60s by Truckers and Hot Rod enthusiasts, the look, functionality and size have been improved for use on motorcycles by LA County Choprods.  It’s cast, heat treated and precision machined from aluminum available in 3 different finishes, Natural, Polished and Black Wrinkle with Polished Highlights.  Each assembly comes complete with stainless steel lid mounting hardware and a quality spin on HD style oil filter and is machined to accept ¼” NPT fittings.  They are compatible with anything up to a Twin Cam and a wide variety of mounting and oil line adapters are being designed to accommodate most applications.  LA County ChopRods.

In-Wheel Electric Engine. Next For Your Motorcycle?

During the Mondial Auto Show, the Venturi Voltage was shown equipped with an electric engine incorporated in the wheel. Is the Michelin “Active wheel” tomorrow’s wheel and can it be adapted to a motorcycle? At first glance it looks like a regular wheel with its mounted tire, but inside a small engine is fed by batteries hidden in the vehicle (2 to 4).  The motorization comes only from the wheels with the advantage of a lot of space saved inside the car. Regarding performance, autonomy is from 80 to 250 miles at a maximum speed of 75 mph. In addition to 0 gas emission, of course no clutch and no differential are necessary. Now it’s up to Michelin to convince manufacturers

Our Tax System Explained?

Quite interesting. To read slowly (thanks Scott).

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. Continue reading ‘Our Tax System Explained?’
