S&S Cycle Launches The Flathead K Bobb

kbobbYou know S&S Cycle as a leading manufacturer of performance engines and replacement parts for v-twin motorcycles for over 50 years.. And now, a first: S&S® Cycle Inc. introduces the K Bobb, a complete vintage reproduction motorcycle under the Flathead Power™ brand.  This fully functional display bike is modeled after a customized 1946 FLH bobber.  This is as authentic a reproduction as can be made with current technology.  Warning: Classified as a display motorcycle, K Bobb is not intended for daily driving, since it does not comply with current emissions standards. However, it is legal to ride this motorcycle to and from shows and events.  In accordance with regulations governing display motorcycles, only 24 bikes of such type can be produced in a calendar year, so supplies are very limited. Plum Krazy 1958 Custom Ariel

plum-krazyLast week, I just had to write that the UK Custom Motorcycle Scene was a little bit dull to receive a flow of bike pictures coming from English Magazine Back Street Heroes. And I liked this one, a 1958 Ariel Red Hunter 350 cc built about two years ago by Rob ‘Billy Whiz’ Willis in his shed. Continue reading ‘Plum Krazy 1958 Custom Ariel’

Wizards Bike Wash. Girl Not Included.

wizards-bike-wash

Although I must have been “briefed” by about 2 dozens of manufacturers wanting me to endorse their products I am not an expert in bike wash and detailing. I just know 1- the meaning of clean when I see it. 2- that you are better off to do it yourself than to give your bike to the first  “Girls Bike Wash” you see when arriving in a rally…
This intro to let you know that “Wizards Bike Wash” is not only another product promising to let you foam away any grime, oil, brake dust, degrease engine/wheels without damaging your paint/chrome/plastics, but that by buying a 22 oz bottle you can help a charity called “Guide Dogs Of America”. This association is dedicated to its mission to provide guide dogs and instruction of their use, free of charge, to blind and visually impaired men and women from the United States and Canada. Starting June 15th, Wizards will donate $1 to the Guide Dogs of America organization for every bottle of Wizards Bike Wash purchased. So, I just gave you at least one good reason to try this product.

Laurent Dutruel Show, Street And Race Bike

zenmotorcyclesTo build a custom bike able at the same time to win prestigious bike shows, perform on the street, race…and win a record in Bonneville is an arduous challenge that very few custom builders have given to themselves… As far as I know, Roger Goldammer from Canada and Fred Krugger from Belgium are the only ones who have successfully defied the show judges, the street cops and the race chronometer with the same bike. And now I think you can add a 3rd name: Laurent Dutruel from France. He is an eclectic and atypical builder like I like them. (Just read again about his amazing Aluminum WL 45). As many Europeans, Laurent is a nostalgic of the Café Racer era. You can immediately recognize his inspiration, the 77 Harley-Davidson XLCR 1000. Cruising The Streets Like A WWII Gunner

ural-t-motorcycleUral released a new model called the Ural T Sidecar Motorcycle. For $9999 you are certain to make your neighbors worry about your intentions,  and probably will get more looks in the streets than any top of the line custom motorcycle featured in Easyriders. Perfect for summer country rides and I guarantee that your kid or your pet will love to ride by your side.  You know that it is assembled in Russia, but probably not that the parts used come from Ducati, Brembo, Keihlin, Sachs, Herzog, Denso, etc. It is powered by a OHV air cooled 4-stroke flat twin cylinder engine of 750 cc, so you will not be able to get a ticket by speeding over 65 mph on the highway. Gearbox is 4 forward and a very useful 1 reverse if you insist for parking it in a big city parking space.  Ural Russian Motorcycles.

Indian Motorcycle Charlotte Price Reductions

indianstandardchiefThe most recent news I got from Indian Motorcycle is that the objective of 700 bikes for 2009 will be reached (750 are being produced). Today, the flagship Indian Motorcycle Dealership in Charlotte, NC announced a major price reduction on only one model: the Indian Chief Standard Long fender Chief Standard reduced by $2,499. Short fender Chief Standard reduced by $5,000. They are available for immediate delivery. Does it mean, as the opposite of what many of you were thinking that the most expensive models ( Deluze, Roadmaster & Vintage) are easier to sell that the Standard one? That buyers prefer the Classic skirted fender than the new short one? Probably. If you are in North Carolina and wish a free demo ride call 888-600-INDIAN (4634). Indian Motorcycle Charlotte

Spectro Answers Your Oil Questions

spectrooils2Question 1:  Can I mix viscosity grades?
Spectro Answer: Yes, you can and no harm will be done. Topping up with 10w40, if its all you have available, will not injure the 20w50 in your crankcase. It will, however, lower the overall viscosity of your crankcase oil to a certain extent. This will cause no harm to your motorcycle. Likewise, adding a 20w50 product to 10w40 will slightly increase the overall viscosity in your crankcase. Again, no harm will occur. Continue reading ‘Spectro Answers Your Oil Questions’

A One-Million Mile Ride On A Harley-Davidson Gets You A Free Brand New One

roadatcyrilhuzeblogFormer  State Senator Dave Zien of Eau Claire bought new his 91 Harley FXRT and hit the 1 million-mile mark on April 4. As amazing, Dave kept all his gas receipts and repair records to prove every mile of his 18-year ride! The Factory is so proud of him that it was decided to give him a brand new bike in exchange of the old one. If you go to Sturgis, the bike will be on display at the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall Of Fame, then the bike will return to Wisconsin where it will be in permanent exhibition at the Harley-Davidson Museum.

Krazy Horse Krazy Racer

Don’t know much about this retro looking custom sport bike, but I think it’s worth publishing in my Blog. On this one, bare steel and aluminum is the real deal. It was built by a shop called Krazy Horse Custom Cycles in England, a country whose custom motorcycle scene is a little bit too tame. Ed Martin from Jammer/Custom Chrome agrees with me and gave its Builder a special Jammer Trophy (pictures Horst Rosler)

Laconia Jamboree Bike Show and Swap Meet On June 13th

greasebagDuring your stay in Laconia, don’t miss the 3rd edition on June 13th. It’s for all the do-it-yourself, grass roots motorcycle builders and wave a giant middle finger into the face of the standard Laconia Bike Week scene. As the organizers states it: “We are the loud and obnoxious throwback to days past when owning a bike meant working on your bike.  We would rather dig through bins of greasy parts than order the latest bolt-on from the mega-catalogs. Don’t you love when you hear about a new company releasing concept bikes with the objective of becoming the new hit of the motorcycle industry? I do. And this story comes from the UK where very little was happening during these last 15 years when you compare to other European countries. Mac Motorcycles is the story of Ellis Pitt meeting 2 designers (Mark Wells & Ian Wride at Xenophya Design) and deciding with them that it was time to return to the spirit of motorcycling and come back to bikes equipped with “nothing surplus to requirements”. Jesse James Is A Dead Man TV Show Starts Tomorrow

jessejames3Just a reminder that Jesse James’s new TV Show on Spike will air its first episode tomorrow Sunday at 10PM ET/9C. No, Jesse Jesse doesn’t have a death wish. What you will see are not stunts but challenges. Quite different. Don’t worry, Jesse already shot all 10 episodes a few months ago, and except a few bruises and a couple of broken ribs he is very fine. Something I am going to reveal: his ultimate fantasy is to go around the world in 30 days on a wheeled vehicle. What kind? He is thinking about it… It would require another show series. If you can’t wait until Sunday evening for the 1st episode of  “Jesse Is A Dead Man” the Spike Website offers a few teaser videos. Jesse James Is A Dead Man.

Source Interlink Gets Approval On Restructuring Plan

magazinenewsstandAs I reported 1 month ago, Source Interlink (75 publications and related websites including including motorcycle magazines Hot Bike, Street Chopper, Baggers, Motorcycle Cruiser, Motorcyclist, etc) filed for chapter 11-bankruptcy protection and at the same time submitted to the court a “pre-pack” reorganization plan. A “pre-pack” is a court proceeding in which the creditors will be paid in full or have agreed to take less. It is used to implement a restructuring of a company’s capital without disturbing its daily operations. The objective is to reduce interest expense, significantly improve free cash flow and allow a company to capitalize on several operational opportunities to further improve and grow its business. After obtaining from its lenders cancellation of nearly $1 billion of the company’s existing debt, and getting $100 million of new financing, the court accepted the proposed restructuring plan.  Yesterday Greg Mays sent this letter to announce the good news to all employees. Joke Of The Week

joke11jpgA little 10-year-old girl was walking home, alone, from school one day, when a big man on a black motorcycle pulls up beside her. After following along for a while, turns to her and asks:

“Hey there little girl, do you want to go for a ride?”. “NO!” says the little girl as she keeps on walking.

The motorcyclist again pulls up beside her and asks,  “Hey little girl, I will give you $10 if you hop on the back.” “NO!” says the little girl as she hurries down the street. The motorcyclist pulls up beside the little girl again and says, “Okay kid, my last offer!  I’ll give you 20 Bucks “and” a Big Bag of Candy if you will just hop on the back of my bike and we will go for a ride.” Finally, the little girl stops and turns towards him and Screams Out…”Look Dad” “Your the one who bought the Honda instead of the Harley”! YOU RIDE IT!

Tennessee Big Mountain Run Is June 18/20th

smoky-mountainsThe Big Mountain Run location is off the beaten path, a very laid back Tennessee setting. It will start with a two day Gypsy tour of the Smokey Mountains including a visit to the “Wheels Through Time Museum”, and a run on both the Dragon (US129) and the Cherohola Skyway. The run will end at the Hiwassee Outfitter’s Campground for two more days of good ol’ fashion bike party events, all in the setting of the Smokey Mountains. And The Best Motorcycle Helmet Is…

motorcyclehelmetWhen you choose a motorcycle helmet, you are supposed to check quietness, ventilation/air flow, de-fogging, face shield (if any) ability to keep wind out, face shield ability to resist scratching, ease of replacing it, scratch resistance of shell, color/graphic design, weight, ease of fastening the strap and last,  fit and comfort.

J.D. Power & Associates, an independent research company, measured for the 11th consecutive year, the overall satisfaction of bikers with their helmets. Arai ranks highest, followed by Shoei and Icon. Harley-Davidson helmets rank very well for design/styling and windshield. Overall satisfaction with motorcycle helmets has increased to its highest point since the study’s inception in 1999.  All results by jumping (you may want to wear your helmet) HERE.
