Tough Deluxe Softail By Exile Cycles
Published by July 30th, 2012 in Builders, Customs and Editorial.Quite difficult to title a custom bike built from the ground with after-market parts and to insure it in a state like California. A much safer approach is to own a street legal factory Harley (or other brand) and to have it customized, finding the right balance between bespoke and the legality and comfort of stock. Since 2006, North Hollywood, CA based builder Russell Mitchell at Exile Cycles has devoted most of his creativity at designing a full line of custom parts letting you (or him) completely re-design a Harley, giving it a full one-off appearance while still preserving its Milwaukee pedigree.
Faithful to the style which has always been his own, Russell likes to build bikes with an industrial/tough look, as dark looking as possible, even when painted in silver… This new project that he named “Tough Deluxe” is darker than the darkest bike of the Harley “Dark Series”, conceived like its main purpose is to piss off the mainstream Harley riders and to terrorize the neighborhood. Erik Buell Racing Gets $20 million In Investment Funding. Erik Buell Racing has received $20 million in foreign investments to allow the upstart OEM to expand its motorcycle production and create about 200 jobs. The $20 million in investment funding comes from investment fund manager FirstPathway Partners LLC and will help EBR produce additional models of sport bikes and expand its international exports. “EBR motorcycles are made in America and in great demand worldwide,” said Bob Kraft, chairman, CEO and founding partner of FirstPathway Partners. “This investment will create good manufacturing and engineering jobs in Wisconsin for skilled American workers and greatly strengthen a local company’s position in the global marketplace.”
Harley-Davidson Outsources Datacenter To Infosys Based In India And Creates New IT Jobs Within The Company In Milwaukee. Is it another story of American jobs lost to offshore outsourcing? Not as simple as it appears. If it’s true that this decision will result in the loss of 125 jobs, including 83 jobs at Harley’s Wisconsin headquarters, the Indian company, Infosys has already a large presence in the US with 16 existing US facilities and in 2012, hired over 1200 people to staff those facilities in the US. The contract with Harley requires that they open a facility in Milwaukee, which will increase the size of Infosys’ US presence and will open up 125 jobs, equal to the number of jobs being lost at Harley-Davidson. Out of this 125 jobs, 70 will be directly on the Harley project. Harley will be encouraging employees whose jobs have been outsourced to apply for these jobs, and will keep their base pay and years of service credit that they acquired while working at Harley-Davidson. With Harley planning on creating 68 IT jobs within the company to manage the current and future needs of Harley’s IT growth, that is a net gain of 68 jobs in the Milwaukee IT community. New businesses are often born out of frustration. In the case of Marrs Cycles, its young founder Kacy Marrs was unable to ride, recovering from an injury sustained doing a half-time freestyle motocross show for the NHRA. Then, it struck him. Why others are building hotrods and custom motorcycles, why not incorporate the Southern California culture and lifestyle into electric bicycles for the ultimate along the coast cruising experience. Maximizing Motorcycle Luggage Capacity
Published by July 25th, 2012 in Accessories, Builders and Editorial.Harley-Davidson claims that these Shrink Sacks (P/N 90200719, $15.95 Medium; P/N 90200721, $17.95 Large) will make the most of touring luggage space by collapsing and “shrinking” bulky clothing. Each kit includes three bags with a Bar and Shield logo, a carry handle, and a label area to mark its contents. The medium Shrink Sack fits in saddlebags, Premium Luggage and Tour-Pak luggage. Harley-Davidson Air-cooled Twin Cam 110™ engine. Did You Know?
Published by July 25th, 2012 in Builders, Editorial and Engines. The Harley-Davidson CVO Road Glide Custom model(FLTRXSE) is equipped with an air cooled 110″ Twin Cam engine (most of rest the lineup uses a 103″.) Summer heat, triple digit temperatures, stalled in traffic. So, how does Harley succeed at avoiding its air cooled powerful engine (122 lb-ft torque) to melt under your seat? Continue reading ‘Harley-Davidson Air-cooled Twin Cam 110™ engine. Did You Know?’

Drag Specialties Will Not Exhibit At The 2013 Indianapolis Dealer Expo. Will Produce Regional Showcases.
Published by July 25th, 2012 in Editorial and Events.A message from Greg Blackwell, VP of Sales Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited
We would like to advise you that we have decided not to exhibit in the 2013 Indianapolis Trade Show. We have been very disappointed with the turn-out of dealers over the past several years and feel that we can no longer justify the cost to participate. We feel that our own Showcase Events produce a better return on investment for LeMans and our Vendors as we are able to meet with more Dealers on a national level.
We are excited to announce that we will produce a West Coast Regional Showcase on March 23-24, 2013 in Anaheim, CA and a Northeast Regional Showcase on April 6-7, 2013 in Valley Forge, PA. Our plan is to produce a Reno Style Showcase where we will feature over 200 vendor booths in each of these shows. We will host a Saturday afternoon Rep/Dealer preview, a Saturday evening Meet & Greet and a Sunday Showcase. We are very excited about the prospects that these shows offer given the high concentration of Dealers in both of these areas. Preparations are being finalized and invitations will be sent very soon. Best Of Shaw Harley-Davidson Sportster
Published by July 23rd, 2012 in Builders, Customs and Editorial.Another very nice XR 1200 Sportster from the boys at Shaw Speed & Custom, the custom department of Shaw Harley-Davidson Of Brigthon, UK. All their heavily modified Harley Sportsters are so cool that each could be part of a high end CVO line offered by the Milwaukee factory. The quality and originality of their custom Harley production is even more remarkable due to the fact that being an official Harley dealer, they always use as many genuine Harley-Davidson accessories as possible. A few after-market parts from independent vendors (Roland Sands is one of their favorite) are then added for the final touch.
This XRCR was built for a UK Celebrity. The guy wanted a motorcycle to scratch around the London city streets and at weekends get out on the open road to have a blast. His passion for old classic racers, including the Cafe era was enough to give the Shaw Speed & custom team enough of a brief to build him this machine. The donor was a 2010 XR1200, already a race bike when Harley-Davidson promoted the XR1200 Cup off the back of the British Super Bike series. Continue reading ‘Best Of Shaw Harley-Davidson Sportster’
