It’s been two years since famous David Uhls painting named “Evelyn” has been released. And now David adds “Stella” to his Women Of Harley collection. He describes Stella as “not a seasoned rider but more of a rebel immersed in the changing attitudes from the Victorian Era to the Roaring ’20’s”. Harley-Davidson was a catalyst in that change and just seeing a woman on a motorcycle was a pretty radical concept at the time. The painting is about 70% complete and he is taking it to the Barrett-Jackson show in Scottsdale, Arizona which starts on Monday. And as you can see, Harley continues to lean to the dark side by trading the shine of chrome for a fade to black. Sure to turn everyone’s head, this Flyin’ trike built by Art In Motion is a good representation of 3-wheel Zen design. It was built in 09,and to arrive to this naked look, shop owner Tom Knapp conceived the frame on CAD and asked Rolling Thunder Manufacturing frame experts to produce it as a Softail with a 6 inch stretch in the arched backbone and a 38-degree rake. For takeoff, this trike uses a 96″ S&S engine (with Diamond Cut jugs by Diamond Heads), and shifts on a 5-speed transmission (equipped with reverse) and rolls on 2 Dayton Knock Off 100 radial spoke wheels size 18 x 10″ in the rear and a front American Wire wheel size 21 x 2.5 supported by a V-Twin Phaat front end. Gas tank placed behind the seat is from Moon and offers a 5-gallon reserve of fuel. This trike was at the World Championship of Bike Building in Sturgis, and scored very honorably, ranking higher than many cool 2-wheelers built by very reputable custom builders. Art In Motion. Yesterday Friday January 22, 2010, Harley-Davidson reported a wider than expected loss for the 4th quarter of 2009. Sales in the US dropped by a whopping 27.9%. Looking ahead to 2010, the company will reduce its shipments of motorcycles by 5% to 10% to a level of 201,000 to 212,000 bikes – At the same time, Polaris Industries announced that it will raise its stock dividend to $0.40 per share, up 3% from the previous dividend – The popularity of motorcycling and motorcycle registrations continues to rise among military service personnel, so does the number of fatal motorcycle crashes. So the U.S. Department of Defense is engaging the Motorcycle Safety Foundation to conduct focus groups hoping to identify ways of reducing two-wheel “Private Motor Vehicle” mishaps among military motorcyclists.
In August 2008 Mid-West Choppers owner Chip Miyler of Illinois was accused by about 40 customers, including non US clients based in New Zealand, to have received a total of US $1.2 million of down payments for custom bikes that were never built before the company went bankrupt in October 2005. Chip Miyler and his wife also filed for personal bankruptcy at the same time. Chip Miyler was also accused of applying for a bank loan offering as collateral motorcycles already sold to customers. Instead of going to trial where he would have faced 30 years in jail for each count of indictment, in May 28, 09 Chip Miyler pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Peoria to a single count of mail fraud. Today was federal court sentencing for Chip Miyler, now 41 years old. U.S. District Judge Joe B. McDade ordered Miyler to repay slightly more than $1 million in restitution to the victims and just shy of 3 1/2 years in prison for fraud charges.

Johnstown, PA. Local and state police scoured the hills outside rural Johnstown, Pennsylvania, after reports of three animal rights activists going missing after attempting to protest the wearing of leather at a large motorcycle gang rally this weekend. Two others, previously reported missing, were discovered by fast food workers “duct taped inside several fast food restaurant dumpsters,” according to police officials. “Something just went wrong,” said a still visibly shaken organizer of the protest.
