British Richard Brown who has already achieved a one way 2 wheel World Land Speed fastest pass at Bonneville Salt Flats is getting ready to break the current world record of 376 mph by the bullet like Ack Attack streamliner. Target speed : two way average in excess of 400mph with peak speed approaching 450mph.
Brown’s machine named “Jet Reaction” is currently being prepped, using thrust power to try to crack the absolute world land speed record for motorcycles. Engine was created from a completely retooled 930 kilowatt helicopter engine with an afterburner spraying fuel into the exhaust to generate even more thrust… Continue reading ‘Jet Reaction 400 MPH Target Speed’

You see it first here before it is officially introduced to motorcycle dealers at the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati (Feb. 4-6, 2012), then made available to all of you.
From Aaron Glenn, the man who 2 years ago introduced the awesome, and somewhat expensive , “Internal Brake 3-piece wheel”, a new idea to improve braking on tall wheels, size 21″, 26″ and 30″. To stop your big donuts, a 16″ rotor (instead of the usual 10″, 11.5″ and 13″) coupled to an oversized brake caliper stated to perform better than dual factory calipers pinching a 11.5″ rotor.
Without doors and enough room to fit 2 very slender adults, the Rolux VB61 convertible micro car was produced in France between 1947 and 1952.
It was powered using a 175 cc Ydral single cylinder, air cooled two-stroke engine mounted behind the driver with a final chain drive to the rear axle. Not easy to get in and out and no reverse (if necessary, you picked up the car and turned it in the direction you wanted to go!) made it a 300 units only production car. And now it’s a collectable… easy to fit in most garages.
Many are going to be surprised by this contraption, surprisingly born in a small individual cramped garage using primitive and very old tools. It is your style or not but Mike Ludivico has a lot of merit for making his own dream happen with very few catalog parts, a lot of passion, courage and tenacity. He has a full time day job builds bikes as a hobby, has no sponsorship and pays everything at full retail. price. So, he spends a lot of time searching swap meets for parts that he can modify and use later. Continue reading ‘Garage Built With A Ton Of Merit’

Long time we should have done it. Too busy, but it’s never too late. For year 2012 we added the +1 Button under each of my articles.
For those who don’t know, +1 gets your conversations going, giving some kind of public stamp of approval to your friends, contacts and the rest of the web. It helps you share right away the cool, helpful, outrageous or just plain ridiculous things I mention in my news, and helps others to find the best stuff on the web. Others will also read your comments and you might just start up another conversation…
You will also find your full list of +1’s in a special tab on your public Google profile if you have one, then you can send them to the right Circles on Google +. To summarize, like in real life, the +1 Button helps you to immediately recommend, share and find, but all over internet.
Daily, my website back end administration tracks lots of data. Among them, who reads what, how many times, for how long, number of comments posted etc. Although there is no exact correlation between the number of readers of each of my articles and the number of comments posted under them, it just happened that in 2011, the most read stories in number of visitors are also the most commented.
So, if you ever wondered which of my 2011 stories, for good or ill, were both most-read and commented, the top one is regarding Big Bear Choppers closing its business, but notice that 5 are related to the Discovery Build-Off between Jesse James, Paul Jr. and Paul Sr. All top 10 stories were “Breaking News” published before all other media outlets or “Exclusives.” See the ranking after the jump. Last month, the “Pursuit” was unveiled by industrial designer Dean Benstead. For a change, a bike prototype fueled not by gas or electricity, but by compressed air. It uses the breakthrough engine technology developed by Angelo Di Pietro of a company based in Melbourne, Australia, called Engineair.
It’s a motocross geometry bike mostly made out of aluminum components, weighting only 100 kg (about 221 lb) with a “Di Pietro” chamber Air Engine, able to reach 100 km/h (about 62 mph.) Compressed air as a genuine alternative to gas and electricity? Benstead said “The bike is running a standard scuba tank which runs air compressed up to 200 bar. With further developments, we would be looking at running a tank at 400 bar with increased capacity to also increase the range,” He was recently named in Melbourne’s Top 100 most influential people and is currently working with Australia’s Engineair and French company MDI on a new design that can bring the technology to the market.
Harley Davidson Owners In India Want Helmets With American Department of Transportation (DOT) Or Australian Certification Logos. In Mumbai, India, the police commissioner had instructed the police officers to fine all bikers wearing helmets without the ISI (Bureau Of Indian Standards) certification mark. Problem is that ISI certified helmets are unanimously recognized as of cheap quality and less impact resistant than their American and Australian counterparts. So, for now in India, riding with a certified ISI helmet is risky business and riding with a good helmet is prohibited and costs you a fine. Of course, many have found out that putting an ISI sticker over a DOT mark works fine with the Mumbai PD.
Mandatary Helmet Law In South Carolina? Common sense to wear a helmet when you ride a motorcycle or infringement on basic liberties? Legislature once again is considering a mandatory helmet law for all ages during its next session in January. South Carolina has a history of failing to pass controversial measures until the federal government threatens to withhold funding for road projects. Neighboring Georgia and North Carolina require helmets for all motorcycle and moped riders, regardless of age. Twenty states have laws that require motorcycle drivers and passengers, as well as those on mopeds, to wear a helmet. Continue reading ‘Fast Motorcycle Industry News’

Comedian Mike DeStefano was still on the rise as a comedian when he died of a heart attack at 44 in March 2011. He wasn’t always the funniest, but there was something direct and heartfelt about him and you could feel the weight of his personal life experiences . At the Comedy Arts Festival in 2007 in Aspen, Colorado, he told one of his most searingly beautiful stories. The audience wept… (thank you Mike Greenwald)
Since my 2 reports on Big Bear Choppers Suspending Operations in early November followed by an Update On The Event, close to total of 550 comments were posted by my readers regarding motorcycles ordered, paid in full or in part, some 1 year ago, some 1 month before the Alsops disappeared from their facility in Big Bear Lake, CA. How many bikes and bike kits were ordered directly or through a BBC dealer, were paid and never delivered to customers in the US and abroad, is the question to which the District Attorney’s Office wants an answer before deciding or not to file criminal charges against Kevin & Mona Alsop and maybe some close collaborators if also involved in a fraud scheme to take payments without intending to build the promised motorcycles and kits. Are exciting times ahead for the established Norton Brand? British at heart, Norton is back in production with three 961 cc models (Commando, Sport and Cafe Racer). 100% built by British hands, the company just delivered in December its first bikes in Italy, is applying for certification in Canada and is currently traveling in the US exhibiting its 961 range in different IMS shows in San francisco, Dallas, Los Angeles and more cities to come in 2012. All 3 models use the same platform and most of the same components. Continue reading ‘The New Norton. Still British At Heart.’
We are all targeted. But some good news regarding your chances to lose your bike, not to your lender, but to ‘who knows”. The National Insurance Crime Bureau reports that during year 2007, 65,678 motorcycles were stolen. In 2010, this number dropped 24% to 49,791. The most stolen brands? Hondas (12260) then Yamaha followed by Suzuki, Kawasaki and then Harley-Davidson. California is the most dangerous place to keep your most prized possession at 5,662 thefts, followed by Texas, Florida, North Carolina and Indiana, these 5 states accounting for 37.7 percent of all motorcycle stolen in the United States.

Antique motorcycles have always more value when unrestored. At most, you can “oil rag” them, wiping them down with some oil, just keeping rust but postponing somewhat its destructive effect. This 1906 Indian Camelback motorbike fits the profile of what collectors are looking for: less than 1700 were produced and one of a handful known as 100% unrestored, everything piece original from the Indian factory and that you could ride… Supposedly, it was ridden for the last time in the 70’s. You all know about Willie G. Davidson motorcycling lineage. Grandson of co-founder William A. Davidson, joining the company in 1963 as a designer, his first motorcycle design being the FX Super Glide, promoted in 1969 vice president of styling, then being part of a group of 13 executives who helped save the company from bankruptcy in the 1980’s, and today head of Harley-Davidson’sProduct Development Center in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
What you may not know is that before joining the company, Willie G. had completed an Art Center education during which he developed his skills as a painter, mainly watercolors. During his career at Harley, he never stopped painting rural landscapes and for the first time the public will be able to look at this more private side of his artistic endeavors. At the H-D Museum from January 20, through April 15th, Willie G. Davidson will exhibit idyllic rural landscapes and still life watercolor paintings with strong luminosity and form that hint at times he spent in the countryside as a way to relax from 48 years being consumed with motorcycle design. Tickets are $12 for Museum Members, $15 for Non-Members. Harley-Davidson Museum.

Unlike in the the famous 1931 horror movie Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, these biker related leather products will not turn your partner from a mild-mannered person into a crude homicidal maniac. This post is about Dr. Jekyl’s Hydes, a company established in 1970 by Tom Accordino in upstate New York, with for mission to bring his customers the highest quality leather products possible. A second place in the Modified Harley Class in the 2011 AMD World Championship by a new kid on the (Brooklyn) block named Steve Iacona from Iacona Custom Cycles deserves a feature in my website. An interesting approach to bike building with both Board Tracker and Cafe Rafe Racer influences converging to create a cool custom Sportster that the younger crowd would love to ride.
Steve is too young in the business to afford any fancy CNC machine. Still, with basic tools he fabricates his own parts and want as many of them on his creations. His catalog of parts is in his head, not on paper or online, and a close look at “Challenger” demonstrates that the kid has quite an imagination and the drive to make things happen, the 2 main qualities of any good custom builder. Indian Motorcycle Dealers Disappearing: First, a big investment made to become an Indian Motorcycle King Mountain dealer during a period of long economic recession destroying the market of motorcycles over $35,000. Then, under Polaris, no true new Indian models until 2013 and maybe 2014, have discouraged or financially exhausted several dealers. After Wichita, Chicago and Toronto Canada, St Petersburg Florida has closed its Indian dealership. Does Polaris want, can or wish to keep any former Indian Motorcycle dealers? For now, not much that Polaris can do to support them. At this pace, it seems to me that when Polaris will be ready to launch new models, the network will be rebuilt only from a selection of existing Victory dealers.
Judge Rules Again That Towns Can’t Make Own Motorcycle Noise Rules. You know the story. Cities trying to impose limits on motorcycle noise that are stricter than what state law allows. Each time it is legally challenged by bikers, local ordinances are ruled illegal. It happens again this week. A Rockingham County, NH judge (Superior Court Judge Kenneth McHughha) ruled that “If each town in New Hampshire had the authority to enact different noise emission ordinances, the state would be subject to a checkerboard pattern of laws,” For example, a motorcyclist who complies with the state noise emission limit could be precluded from driving through a town because that town enacted a lower noise emission limit than the state. The judge’s decision comes in response to a lawsuit filed by Seacoast Motorcycles Inc., owner of the Seacoast Harley Davidson dealership in North Hampton, NH. Seacoast filed suit against the Town of North Hampton, successfully arguing that the town did not have legal authority to adopt its own motorcycle noise ordinance.
